The GTA 6 leak campaign reached nine clips on August 23, and this one carries two firsts. A file labelled "gas2" reportedly ends with the series' iconic Wasted screen, the first time any of the leaked material has shown a death state, and it closes on an on-screen objective reading "Return to Lucia" with a heart icon beside it. Nine clips in, that is the first time Lucia Caminos has surfaced in any of them.
None of this comes from Rockstar. The studio has not authenticated a single frame, has not commented on the contents, and has now gone since August 6, 2026 without a public statement of any kind. Everything below is reported by outlets watching the material, from a build most coverage dates to 2023, three days before the Extended Look premieres on Netflix.
What Clip Nine Reportedly Shows
The video runs roughly two minutes and is the second gas station clip in the run, hence the "gas2" label. Per RockstarINTEL, Game Rant, Notebookcheck, TechWiser, Beebom, Dexerto and GameFragger, the sequence goes something like this:
- Jason arrives at a gas station where an NPC has backed in a pickup truck with a bathtub sitting in the bed and is calmly filling the tub with gasoline. Coverage has universally read the character as a conspiracy theorist stockpiling fuel.
- Jason takes the truck. The theft goes badly.
- There is an explosion, and Jason dies.
- The screen cuts to Wasted.
- A short cutscene follows in which Jason finishes at a urinal, and the objective "Return to Lucia" appears with a heart icon on the right side of the frame.
The bathtub detail is the part that has travelled furthest, and it is easy to see why. It reads as a self-contained joke about the game's setting rather than a systems demo, which is a different kind of signal from the driving and combat material in earlier clips. The Wasted Screen: Real, but Treat It as Placeholder
This is the first look at how the build handles player death, and it matters mostly because it is a UI element rather than a gameplay one. UI is among the last things a studio locks. Coverage has been careful to flag that what appears here may be temporary art, and that caution is warranted: menus, fonts, fail states and transition screens routinely change late in Rockstar development because they are cheap to swap and heavily play-tested.
What it does establish is that the classic wording survived into at least one build. "Wasted" has been the series' death card since GTA III, dropped for a plain fade in Red Dead Redemption 2, and its presence here suggests Rockstar is not retiring the term. "Return to Lucia" Is the More Interesting Line
Until this clip, the leaked material was a Jason-only affair: driving, flight, melee, a taser, a hypercar theft, a robbery, a strip club. No mission structure, no menus beyond the radio wheel, and no Lucia.
An objective marker naming her, paired with a heart icon, changes very little about what is confirmed and quite a lot about what the leaker apparently has. It implies a build in which the partner relationship is expressed through the HUD, not just through cutscenes. Whether that is a one-off waypoint or evidence of a persistent companion system is not something a two-minute clip can settle. It also undercuts a theory that had been circulating: that the leaker's build was somehow limited to Jason's portion of the game. It evidently is not.
The Context Around Clip Nine
Three things are running at once, and they should not be conflated.
Rockstar remains silent. No statement, no authentication, no denial. The only visible actions are DMCA takedown notices and continued paid promotion of the August 27 Extended Look. The takedowns function as backhanded authentication, because you do not file copyright claims on footage that is not yours.
Take-Two has moved legally. On August 20 the publisher filed subpoena requests in the Southern District of New York seeking records from Microsoft and Discord, with a reported response deadline of September 4. The leaker is monetising all of it. Every clip in this run carries watermarks and QR codes pointing at a cryptocurrency token that launched three days before the first leak. What Clip Nine Does Not Prove
A leaked clip from a 2023 build establishes that something existed in 2023. It does not establish that the Wasted art ships, that the heart icon means what people think it means, or that the gas station encounter is anything more than an ambient event that got cut. Rockstar has published nothing about mission structure, HUD design or companion systems for this title.
